Down with Decor – Spring has Sprung!

Resident decorator Chloe has given us her insight on the splashes of colour and decor that is trending for spring this year and let us just say…this girl knows her stuff!

Spring has Sprung!

Let’s get rid of the gloomy weather by introducing colour back in to your space! This can be done by adding new toss pillows and throws to your room, Easter arrangements and décor or flower arrangements. Here’s the low down on what you need to know…

Fresh Flowers:

What better way to make your home smell good than by bringing in some beautiful fresh flower arrangements?
Farmers’ markets are always the best places for the freshest flowers! Make a trip with your friends to the market and shop through the flower boutiques for a new arrangement to take home.
By getting your own flowers means you can arrange them however you want. I love the use of mason jars as a vase! They can hold more than you know and it gives a shabby/vintage feeling to your bouquet. Mason jars come in many colours and you can always distress them to make them look more antique.  If that doesn’t suit you, you can use just about anything to make your flower arrangements…the options are endless.

Have you seen the “flowers in box” all over social media? If not, then you’re probably living under a rock! This is my new OBSESSION! Couture La Fleur is at your service and they are here in Calgary now! WOO HOO!

These stunning yet simple flowers are more than just the bundle your significant other picks up from Co-op or Safeway. It is a gesture that goes that extra mile (hint hint men or any single men out there who want to send me a bouquet! *wishful thinking)…carrying on…
No more Safeway flowers, order from Couture La Fleur. And the best part…the box is your vase!

Toss Pillows and Throws:

I know I talk about this more than enough, but hey, it’s the easiest way to bring in colour without having to paint your walls!
Take some of those boring throws and put them in storage. It’s all about colour this month. Bring in some fun patterns and colours that will make your room a bit more special. No one can have enough toss pillows anyways. I, for one, have 10 on my bed alone…

Easter:

If only the Easter bunny could hide chocolate covered eggs everywhere all year!! My body, however, would not appreciate that one bit…*sigh*

Easter is a perfect time to bring out fun vibrant colours. And Easter brunch is always a great way to show off your style!

  • Luxurious fabrics: Up the level of sophistication and glam by incorporating luxurious and colour fabrics into a decorative table. A beautiful fuchsia and orange colour combination in a table cloth or napkins are always fun.
  • Mix and match centerpiece: Vases are not technically needed to dress the center of your table for Easter brunch. Raid your kitchen cabinets for your favourite pitchers, bottles, cake stands, fruit bowls etc…this will help you create a multi-leveled display for your table’s centerpiece. The shapes and scale of each piece might vary, but make sure to pick everything within the same general colour scheme and material palette. They will all work beautifully together!
  • Something green: Instead of opting for the traditional Easter pinks and purples, work with green to play off the beginning of spring. When working with your everyday boring white china, you can still have an amazing tablescape by using colour essentials in flatware, napkin rings and table linen.
  • Pops of colour: To give guests the feeling of vibrancy and excitement that comes with spring, incorporate natural elements that provide subtle pops of colour. Organic pieces can work as placeholders, such as green apples with the leaf scripted with your guest’s names in gold ink. Or yellow roses also work as beautiful placeholders, they bring in the colour and the fresh scent of spring.

Bring in spring with these fresh ideas and you’ll be feelin’ fresh faced and ready for the warm weather to arrive.

Until next time!
