The Block: Construction Update – June 2013

We’re so excited for summer to arrive! With great weather this season (minus a couple of weeks of rain), the construction team at The Block is hard at work and taking advantage of the sunny days this month.

We caught up with our construction site superintendent, Colin, to see how your new SW Calgary condo or townhome at The Block is coming along. Here’s what’s going on as we work to build your new place.

We’re framing like crazy! The team has been working hard for months framing each of the four storeys of The Block. They are now framing on the east side of the fourth floor, which includes the two bedroom homes and the super large 3 bedroom home (with majorly high ceilings and massive balconies).

Walls are being built. We’re building all of the walls on site (they call this stick framing), as opposed to having walls built off site. This cuts the time down and helps us stick to our schedule. The team is building the walls for each home on the west side of the site, then using a crane to move them to their final locations. It’s quite a sight!

Rough-in’s are happening. Rough-in’s mean the inner workings of your home are being installed. In this case, we’re installing the electrical and mechanical pieces of your home This happens prior to drywalling so everything is in place inside the walls. Rough-in’s are being installed in both the second and third floor condos, and starting in the townhomes.

We’re completing the final pieces of the parkade. Mechanical and electrical rough-in’s are also taking place in the parkade. This means it’s the final stage for the parkade, and we expect it to be complete in about three weeks, for the end of June.

The railings in the courtyard are coming together. We’re fireproofing the metal support structures of the railing, which is an important step to completing the railings on the walkways on each storey of the building. These walkways connect you from your home to the stairwells and elevator, along with access to the courtyard. Currently we’re fire coating on the second and third levels.

Our awesome site superintendent is always snapping pics on site. Let us know what you’d like to see, and we’ll post some photos on Facebook this summer as construction ramps up.
