The University District is well under way. With so many different projects on the go around the community, on our August at University District site and lots of exciting things in the works for 2020, we thought it was time for a construction update.
Here’s an overview of what’s been happening:
- Drilling piles (concrete supports for building) around the perimeter and on the west side of the building where the hotel will be, the construction crew has excavated down to anchor height.
Around the community:
- The Northwest Commons park, North Pond Park and the urban dog park, which is suitable for all sizes of dogs, are all open. Plus, when you visit, you can park for free at the Discovery Centre, so be sure to stop in and say hi.
- The regional pathway that runs around the community is now open. The temporary pedestrian corridor, which runs from McLaurin St. to 39 St. (near the Children’s Hospital), is still open and the preferred route for pedestrians travelling through the community.
- Last fall, the City of Calgary built a new Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) stop on McLaurin St. The new MAX Orange line serves major destinations such as Foothills Medical Centre and the University of Calgary. MAX Orange also connects Brentwood and Saddletown CTrain Stations, so you won’t have to go downtown or transfer to cross to the north side of the city. For more info. visit calgarytransit.com/max.
