Avi Urban’s Olive live/work townhome development was recognized this past weekend at the 2013 Mayor’s Urban Design Awards (MUDA). Olive was awarded in the Urban Architecture category.
The Mayor’s Urban Design Awards (MUDA) are biennial awards that acknowledge the important contribution that designers, architects and artists make in improving the quality of life in our city by producing high quality buildings and public spaces.
This award is a big deal for our team, as Olive was a groundbreaking development in Calgary and the first live/work development of its kind in the city. It’s also big news for our homeowners – you can be confident you’re moving into an incredible home, designed and created by an innovative home builder. It means you’ll be moving into a house you can be proud of.
Completed in 2006, Olive is a three storey development which features 27 townhomes and five commercial retail bays. This design allows for homeowners to operate their businesses and reside in the same building, while enjoying a private mews and easy access to the bustling area of Bridgeland.
The Mayor’s Urban Design Awards 2013 honoured 11 winners in 10 categories. The biennial awards were established in 2005. Winners in seven out of 10 categories in the Mayor’s Urban Design Awards will go on to compete in the National Urban Design Awards.
Mayor Nenshi explains: “This is about all of the work we do to build and develop the city,” he says. “I love that design is taking the forefront, whether we’re looking at brand-new suburban developments or inner-city revitalization and everything in-between.”
