It’s Clever Christmas with Avi Urban, and the showhome decorating team of Julie, Chloe and Alex.
Our Avi Urban showhome decorators are always on the hunt for affordable and easy ways to accessorize our new Calgary townhomes and condos. We recently took them shopping on a snow winter day to find some perfect new pieces to decorate some of our showhomes and the Homes by Avi head office.
We know Christmas can get expensive, so here are our designers top 10 picks for places to shop in Calgary for affordable Christmas decor:
1. HomeSense – We love HomeSense for those one of a kind pieces for the holidays. You’ll find sparkly decorations, garland, large outdoor decorations, and tons of wreaths. Most of these pieces are super affordable, with large boxes of ornaments for $5 and huge wreaths for $25!
2.Michael’s – This craft store goes all out for Christmas! We shop at Michael’s for stockings, ornaments, wreaths, and crafting items. Sign up for their email list and they’ll send you coupons for 40% or more off an item or purchase! It’s also a great place to find scented holiday pieces, like pine cones and pine garland.
3.Costco – This place isn’t just for 2 kilogram jars of olives! We’re all for Costo at Christmas, because of their awesome selection of christmas trees for under $200, and their seriously affordable items to wrap your gifts. We’re talking 20 yards of ribbon or massive rolls of gift wrap for $10.
4. Bouclair Home – This Canadian store offers modern and contemporary pieces, if you’re not into the traditional Christmas look. This is where you’ll find our new favourite item, feather Christmas trees (check out the video to see why we love these trees!) You’ll also find those special ornaments to perfectly coordinate, and we love how the store is arranged by colour.
5.Target – This new store to Calgary is one of our new favourites! Their home decor generally is pretty stylish, so of course their Christmas decor is too. It’s a great place to pick up strings of lights, but it’s also stocked full of modern decorations and statement pieces. Bonus, they’re currently having weekly sales on Christmas decor!
6.Chintz & Co. – This Canadian decor store is full of those little accessories that make your home cozy for Christmas. Here, you’ll find candles, throws, and glitzy Christmas décor.
7.Cozy Cottage Interiors– If you’re into the traditional Christmas look. Cozy Cottage is a great little treasure trove of home decor! It’s full of affordable pieces with character, like burlap garland and handmade ornaments. You’ll also find candles, scented wax for warmers (kind of like Scentsy), and country crafty decorations.
8.Chapters/Indigo – This store isn’t just for books. Their selection of modern Christmas items is unique and interesting (while still being easy on the wallet!) We like Chapters for stockings, snow globes, metallic/sequin toss cushions, and Christmas cookbooks.
9.Ten Thousand Villages – This is one of the stores we frequent when we need to find that special piece. At Christmas, it lights up with unique items and ornaments from different countries around the world. The items are free trade friendly and hand made, making them extra cool if you’re looking for an affordable, eclectic way to decorate.
10. Spruce Meadows International Christmas Market (Nov 15-17) (Nov 22-24) (Nov 29-Dec 1) – This local craft market is so much fun! Get in early, as the line ups are usually out the door and down the road! This huge local Christmas market offers food items, crafts, and floral arrangements. Because most items are made by local artisans, you can find some great deals and one-of-a-kind pieces.
