Duke at Mission: Film Fest February

Attention cinephiles! February is your month! Whether you are looking for Canadian content, classic cinema, genre specific or niche format films, Calgary is a buzz this month with events and screenings to satisfy your tastes. Hit the box office to soak up some exciting and interesting film culture, and support four awesome local film organizations in the process.

Canada’s Top Ten Film Festival

Highlighting the best in 2015 Canadian Cinema, Canada’s Top Ten Film Festival is presented by Calgary International Film Festival (CIFF) in partnership with the Globe Cinema and the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). All films are chosen by a panel of filmmakers and industry professionals from across Canada. The festival runs February 4-7. Tickets $10 or you can also purchase a shareable 5-pack for $40.

Dance on Film

The Calgary Underground Film Festival (CUFF) is collaborating with Dancers’ Studio West (DSW) to present an evening of dance on film on Saturday, February 20. Featuring two feature films, two local shorts and an artist talk by DSW. Tickets are from $8.

$100 Film Fest

The longest running film festival in Calgary, Calgary Society of Independent Filmmaker’s (CSIF) $100 film festival celebrates its 24th anniversary this year. What started as a challenge for local filmmakers to make a film for under one hundred dollars, has evolved into a celebration of the small film format (i.e. 16mm and Super 8). Check out more than 30 experimental films between February 25 – 27. Ticket prices vary.

Calgary Cinematheque

Already in full swing, Calgary Cinematheque’s 2015-16 season features weekly films presenting a variety of genres including a Robert Altman showcase, 21st Century Cinema of Argentina, Spaghetti Westerns, and select contemporary films. In addition to weekly films, Cinematheque has also gathered some of Calgary’s brightest local luminaries to share and discuss their favorite movies at four special Salon Cinema events.
