Buying a new home is beyond exciting! Checking out all the fab new home designs, shopping for decor to personalize your space and bragging to your friends about your sweet new digs — just don’t forget to think about the important behind-the-scenes stuff. Whether you’re purchasing your first home or your fourth, the process tends to get a little confusing. That’s why we’ve come up with a handy-dandy guide to help you prep for your new home search. Follow these five simple steps, which will help pave your path to home-ownership.
Step 1: Picky, picky
You’ve decided to buy a new home. Take your time to look at (and compare) different builders and pick the one that suits your needs. Remember that it’s not just what’s on the inside, but also the outside, that counts. We’d suggest looking for a balance between functional, high quality designs, at-or-above standards for energy efficiency, safety and performance, location and amenities.
Step 2: Think about the future
Of course, it’s easy to get wrapped up in something based on current needs, but be sure to consider your future plans to make sure you choose a home that will suit your evolving needs. How many bedrooms are ideal? Can a room be used as a home office? Is your home in a neighbourhood that will grow with you? There’s a lot to consider, so plan appropriately.
Step 3: Set a budget
Before you start shopping, meet with a mortgage lender to see what you can afford. This way you’ll avoid potential disappointment if you fall in love with a home out of your price range. Curious what Avi Urban has to offer? Check out our current developments.
