Since 2007 we have seen extensive changes to the Currie Barracks development plan. A plan that introduces the – MAC- ” An urban centre for a sub-region of the city, providing opportunities for people to work, live, shop, recreate, be entertained and meet their daily needs” (White,2014), to Currie Barracks, the last inner-city land to be developed in Calgary.
The proposed plan goes before the Calgary Planning Commission on March 12 and then to city council on May 11. The re-devised plan includes increased retail and residential square footage, and has added a large community park that will be built Spring/Summer of 2015. Also included in the plan is a proposed dog park and tot-lot just minutes from the Juno Townhomes, which has residents beyond excited.
Last week was the third and final Open House that the City of Calgary will host before going to vote. The new addition to the plan has had tons of positive feedback from the public and continues to create awareness among the neighboring communities.
