Our Avi Urban interior designer Julie Punter is filling you in on the latest fall design trends for your home. Plus, she’ll help you find easy and affordable ways to make these trends your own.
So what’s in for fall? “Warming up your space and adding texture is major,” says Julie. Try removing sheers and brighter prints and introducing new textures like knits and thicker fabrics. “Knit ottomans or ‘knit poofs’ are really in right now, and are relatively inexpensive – try finding a knit ottoman from a large home décor store like Homesense or Bouclair.” Introducing throw blankets, oversized throw pillows and layered textures to your living or bedroom space also adds a cozy feeling and makes it feel like fall has arrived.
Also in this autumn are jewel tones. “Instead of the bright colours that you may have used during the summer (like lime green and fuchsia), bring in some darker jewel tones to warm up the room,” Julie suggests, “and get inspired by the colour of leaves falling.” Tones like aubergine, burgundy, brown, and orange can be used in accessories like throw pillows, candles and centerpieces. “The changing fashion in fall, like brown leather boots and dark cozy sweaters, can be your inspiration for anywhere in your home, too!” explains Julie. From your office to your kitchen, try adding jewel-toned accessories like leather-bound books as a statement piece, or even using eggplants and squashes as natural kitchen décor. Bringing warm colours into your home is a great way to greet the changing season.
