Construction at The Block is moving along quickly, and we were excited to share the progress with Jeremy Sturgess and a group of students from the University of Calgary EVDS (architectural) program.
When we were first designing The Block, we worked with Jeremy and his team at Sturgess Architecture to collaborate on a modern, unique condo development. We had worked with this local architecture firm previously when Avi Urban developed one of Calgary’s first and definitely coolest urban live/work developments we named Olive at the Bridges, so it made sense to partner again when The Block came around. We wanted a truly unique approach and we knew that Jeremy would happily provide a different perspective.
With our site superintendent and safety supervisor leading the way, our team at The Block were happy to show Jeremy and the group of architectural students how blueprints come to life. Take a look at these pictures to see the class tour.
Construction is also ramping up. Here’s what’s happening at The Block:
Framing is well underway, with three of the four storeys already in place. You can start to see how the courtyard will look once the development is complete, and we’re lovin’ it!
Balconies are coming along, too! If you refer to these photos, you’ll be able to see the balconies of the townhomes and the exterior walkways and private patio spaces of each of the apartments. Check out all of that space for your BBQ and table set.
Garages are also being framed in the live/work townhomes, so it’s easy to see how large these spaces actually are (since many of these homeowners will be using the garages as their office or studio space).
The parkade is pretty much complete, with the final sections of the concrete floor already poured and in place. We’re all for private parking space downtown, and there’s even room for visitor parking.
Keep it locked on our Facebook page for more construction photos as the work continues, and feel free to email your customer relations representative if you have any questions about your place.
