Brad Holt, winner of this year’s Dream Home Artist Project, gave us a sneak peek recently of the work that will appear in the 2015 Stampede Rotary Dream Home, and we got to say, we’re pretty excited.
Earlier in the year, Brad was chosen from hundreds of candidates by a committee made up of Homes by Avi staff members and designers, art gallery professionals, and past winners to display his work in the Dream Home. One of the main criteria of the annual artist search is that the work must complement the theme or core design principles of the home. And this time around, Brad’s work does that beautifully.
This year marks the 20th time that Homes by Avi has built the Dream Home. Through the years, we’ve strived to make every home a show stopper, but this year, we really wanted to do something special. Our goal was to design a home that is quintessentially Albertan, a home that not only reflects the beauty of Alberta’s landscape, but the traditions and pastimes of its people.
Growing up in rural Alberta, Brad developed a love of the province’s inspiring landscapes. He also loves photorealism. All of Brad’s pieces begin as a photograph. He then hand paints the photograph using acrylics and other mediums to create texture. But what’s so special about Brad’s work is that he hand makes all of his own frames using reclaimed wood. Each frame is unique and a true reflection of the art itself.
We can’t wait to see more of Brad’s work in this year’s Dream Home. See it for yourself when the home is revealed during Stampede’s sneak-a-peek.
